About Sophia Cakova
Artist Bio
Sophia Cakova (b. 1994, Bratislava, Slovakia) is a Slovak visual artist working in the field of intermedia and interdisciplinary art. Her practice focuses on the intersection of light, frequency, and human perception, explored through both visual and auditory forms. Through painting, she investigates how visual forms can express experiences that are often difficult to articulate through language.
A distinctive element of her visual language is the use of micro-dots, which represent invisible energetic processes, waves of light, and vibrational movement. These intricate dot structures reflect subtle shifts in space, colour, and frequency in her surroundings.
Her work combines fluid organic shapes and geometric forms, both serving as representations of the human body, dissected and dispersed into space. The body appears not as a literal figure but as a symbolic structure through which perception, identity, and internal experience are explored.
Sophia’s paintings invite viewers to engage with ambiguity and emotional depth. Rather than presenting fixed narratives, they create a contemplative space where personal interpretation becomes part of the experience.
Education & Background
Sophia studied Textile Design at Nottingham Trent University and later completed an MA in Art and Science at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London. Her work is grounded in an ongoing inquiry into the physical properties of wavelength and their psychological effect on the viewer.
She explores abstract paintings, drawings, and sound compositions, investigating the space between sensory experience and analytical observation. Influenced by spiritualist and mediumistic art, her work examines phenomena that oscillate between the visible and invisible, the material and the energetic.
Artistic Practice
Sophia works primarily in oil painting, combining observation, experimentation, and reflection to create layered compositions. By building micro-dot patterns, fluid organic forms, and geometric structures, she creates visual environments that blur the boundaries between internal and external worlds. These forms represent subtle energetic shifts and the disassembly of the human body into space, inviting the viewer to engage both visually and conceptually.
Her practice encourages viewers to slow down and immerse themselves in sensory and emotional experience, exploring the interplay between light, frequency, and perception. Each work becomes a dynamic space where interpretation remains open and evolving.
Mentoring & Educational Work
Alongside her studio practice, Sophia mentors young artists, supporting them in developing independent creative thinking and preparing portfolios for art schools and universities. Her educational work emphasises nurturing the personal creative voice and fostering interdisciplinary exploration.
